Summer at Sandy Spring - Counselors in Training

The CIT (Counselor in Training) Program is designed for young leaders who are interested in becoming summer camp counselors or professionals in the education field. CITs receive leadership training and learn how to become an effective team player. In addition, the CIT program has launched new focus programs that enable our CITs to be certified in CPR and First Aid. Through the program, our CITs obtain valuable training that will serve them well both in the camp setting and in other employment environments. CITs will spend time in individual programs as counselors and will return to their peers to discuss what they have learned. They will also receive instruction in different skill areas, including resume writing and interview skills. CITs also get hands-on experience in learning rock climbing and belaying techniques, water safety, and team-building facilitation skills. This 2-week program will close out with a fun-filled field trip! It is possible to obtain community service hours towards high school graduation through this program, but CITs must check with their individual schools before camp begins.
