CU Summer Scholars - Vet Camp
Learn more about animals and animal industries through hands-on experiences. This exciting opportunity will include live animal veterinary skills by milking dairy cows, bottle feeding calves, working beef cattle, shearing sheep, artificial insemination in pigs, and handling of horses. Learn how to dissect post-mortem animals, suture, ultrasound, perform blood tests and evaluate histological samples.
Students will learn the following:
-Basic anatomy of the cow and the dog.
-Comparative physiology of many species including humans.
-Learn about the medical and management needs of all major farm
animals.
-Visit a fully functional veterinary hospital.
-Learn about emerging technologies in the medial field
-Veterinary and Medical Ethics
-Parasite identification and management
-And much more!
Daily Schedule (subject to change)
-Monday: Godley Snell Research Center (GSRC) tour & radiology lab
AND rat dissection @ GSRC
-Tuesday: Beef & sheep farm - handling AND Suture lab @ GSRC
-Wednesday: Dairy Farm - calf feeding, ultrasound, and milking
-Thursday: Wet Lab - fecal test, blood test, histology @ P&A AND
Equine Farm - handling
-Friday: Swine Farm - artificial insemination, ultrasound AND dog & cat
dissection @ GSRC
