CU Summer Scholars - Physics and Astronomy
Why Does it Tick, Click, Slip, Slide, Spin, or Shine?
Participants will explore the worlds of Physics through hands-on activities in the areas of radiation, energy, dynamics, and cryogenics; with emphasis on: distinguishing between radiation and radioactivity, energy conservation methods and limitations, dynamics of moving bodies, and solid, liquid, and gas phase transitions. In Astronomy investigations will include the areas of planetary, stellar, and galactic formation and structure. Activities will include visits to Oconee Nuclear Station, the Clemson University Planetarium, and night time telescope observation (weather permitting) at the South Carolina Botanical Gardens.
