Quest’s Camp Thunderbird provides youth camp sessions that create opportunities for youth of ALL abilities to play, learn and grow together. With a central focus of inclusion, our youth programs is one of few in the state of Florida that provides a summer camp experience where youth with and without disabilities come to camp together. For our youth without disabilities, our program creates the chance at a young age to recognize others as individuals, not by their disabilities. By providing a camp experience alongside their peers with disabilities our participating youth gain experience and awareness of youth with disabilities. Through this experience our program creates more understanding, empathic youth that we hope in future creates a generation of a more understanding, empathic community. For our youth without disabilities, the opportunity to attend camp alongside abled bodied peers is invaluable. Typically segregated from peers in other areas of life, Quest’s Camp Thunderbird youth program provides the opportunity for these youth to be included. Along with the feeling of acceptance, participating in programs with youth without disabilities can often provide opportunities for peer modeling in social settings, daily living skills and many more areas of incidental learning in the camp experience.
