Oak Crest's Munchkin Program is specifically designed to meet the needs of children ages 3-5 years old. We offer a 5 full day program as well as a 3 full day program and a 5 half day program, and our Munchkin program boasts the lowest camper to staff ratio in camp. Like the rest of camp, our Munchkins are arraanged into groups by ages and typically groups are between 10 and 12 campers with 3 to 4 staff members. All of our Munchkin Groups follow a 5-day schedule where each day they are exposed to a variety of both athletic and creative activities. Each activity is run by a Munchkin Specialists who are hired and trained to specifically work with our 3, 4, and 5 year olds. The focus of this program is threefold: development of fine and gross motor skills, learn to swim, and social development.
Our Munchkin campers have two periods of Swim everyday! In the morning, they participate in Instructional Swim with an American Red Cross Swim Instructor and in the afternoon, they return to the pool for free swim. One of the great things about the Oak Crest Aquatic facility is that everyone is able to start swimming in just 1-2 feet of water, which greatly increases our campers' comfort level as well as intial progress, and then as they become more comfortable, we are able to move into deeper water.
The most magical thing about camp is that children learn to get along with other kids in a group setting, and in doing so become more confident and independent. While traveling from activity to activity, the group will also work on building friendships, working together, sharing, and learning to interact in a respectful way with other campers and staff. Oak Crest offers a caring environment where children learn the emotional and social skills necessary to succeed in life.
