Namanu - Day Camp

Located in inner-SE Portland, adjacent to Sunnyside Environmental School (at 3520 SE Yamhill St),the site is a dynamic space that we’ve used for other programming and brings additional resource areas to heighten the program experience for campers. We look forward to another summer in our new home! At a week of Day Camp, youth in grades incoming K-6 can expect to find the following, and much more: small groups geared towards individual attention, classic camp songs & games, weekly field trips to Camp Namanu in Sandy, OR, two healthy snacks a day, special presenters from the community, and a campfire each week with songs where the whole family is invited!

A Northwest Tradition since 1924, Camp Namanu (Nuh-MAH-Noo) provides seminal outdoor learning opportunities each year for 7,500 youth and families as a summer resident camp, outdoor classroom for all Camp Fire programs, Outdoor School host site for local schools, and a resource for local community organizations. Camp Namanu resides one hour east of Portland on 552 forested acres beneath Mt. Hood, along the banks of the Sandy River. During the summer most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in math skills and low-income students lose more than two months of reading achievement. Studies demonstrate that non-academic experiences during the summer—like summer camp—can support success during the school year, including higher grades and test scores. As a summer resident camp, Namanu helps schools combat the “summer learning slide” and strengthens student growth by engaging over 1,100 kids each summer in fun, experiential learning and unique enrichment activities. Evaluations show that campers demonstrate growth in key developmental areas such as confidence, compassion, motivation, leadership, and environmental stewardship.
