Camp Walden - Second Session (3 Weeks)
Walden is a coed, residential summer camp in Northern Michigan. Our campers range in age from 7 to 16 and come from all over the United States and the world. Family-owned for 60 years, Walden nurtures kids' curiosity and creativity in a screen-free environment. We offer more than 50 different activities and a "camper-choice" program for children with a wide variety of interests: land and water sports, visual and performing arts, nature and tripping, horseback riding as well as media (newspaper, radio, video, darkroom photography). Walden campers choose their own activity programs and live in groups of eight to 12 campers with three to four counselors. Our cabins have electricity (heaters) and full bathrooms, bunk beds and shelves for personal items. College-age counselors mentor and support campers in an atmosphere that encourages independence, friendship, acceptance and empathy. Evening programs and special all-camp activities which may include Capture the Camp, Counselor Hunt, Soap Box Derby and Walden Idol music competition. Campers participate in a day trip to Mackinac Island and have the opportunity to join numerous day and overnight hiking/camping trips. The final week of Second Session is packed with special events such as our all-camp talent show, Walden Under the Stars, team sports championships and art show. Camp wraps up with our Halloween-themed banquet, awards ceremony, slide show and final campfire. Like the song says, "Walden Days/Walden Nights/There's nothing to do back in the city!"
