Georgetown Day School - Music Programs

GDS offers several music programs Beginning Orchestra Camp Learn to play a new instrument and explore music through stringed instruments. Students will learn to play violin, viola, or cello in sections and as an ensemble. In addition, students will explore other instruments such as drums and xylophones to expand on their music knowledge. * Rising 3rd to 5th Grade * Week of 8/20 * 12:30 to 3:30 pm * LMS Campus (4530 MacArthur Blvd, NW) * $275/week Music Composition Camp Have you always wanted to learn to write your own music? Now you can! Join GDS Music Teacher Keith Hudspeth this summer for a crash course in music notation and composition. Learn how to use the Sibelius music composition software and ultimately write your own musical masterpiece. * Rising 5th to 9th grade * Weeks of 6/18 and 6/25 (campers may take one week or both weeks) * 9:00 am-12:00 pm * GDS Lower Middle School (4530 MacArthur Blvd., NW) * Cost: $250 * Class size is limited to 12 participants New! Beginning Band Camp Learn to play a new instrument! Learn the fundamentals of woodwind, brass, and percussion music and instrumentation with GDS band teacher Tricia Melka. This is a great camp for beginners who want to join their school band programs! * Rising grades 5-8 * Week of 8/20 * 8:30-11:30 am * $275 * GDS Lower Middle School (4530 MacArthur Blvd., NW) Singin' Out: Voice and Musical Theater Workshop (rising 5th to 9th graders) Do you love singing? Are you a musical theater fan? This one-of-a-kind summer program is for you! Join GDS music teacher and classically trained opera singer, Keith Hudspeth, for an exciting and musical summer! Rising 5th to 9th graders are invited to join in the small summer voice and musical theater classes. After short warm-up exercises, Keith will work with participants individually, in small groups, and as a collective to further develop proper vocal technique for each singer. Later, participants will look at various pieces from musical theater repertoire and will touch on performance, basic dance steps, solos, chorus, and more! Plan to attend the final performance on Friday, July 20 at 11 am. * Rising 5th to 9th grade * July 9 to 20 (2 weeks) * GDS Lower Middle School (4530 MacArthur Blvd, NW) * Cost: $525 for one class * Class size is limited to 15 participants

Georgetown Day School is pleased to offer a variety of camps and classes for the greater Washington, DC community! Whether you are already familiar with GDS, live in the neighborhood, or you’re just visiting for a while, we welcome your whole family to participate in our camps and classes! If you're looking for something for your children, we offer Break Camps for children during most school holidays; Summer Programs throughout the summer; and a variety of classes and workshops on weekends during the school year. If you're looking for something for yourself, consider enrolling in one of our adult classes or workshops. You never know what you'll learn! We hope to see you soon! ABOUT OUR SUMMER CAMPS Camps for Campers age 5 to 5th Grade GDS offers a range of camps for children age 5 to grade 5. Choose from our ever-popular Hopper Day Camp, which runs weekly for 9 weeks of the summer, our sports camps (MultiSports, Soccer, and Basketball), our touch-typing, or Hop Into Math Camp or our Dance and Music programs, including a beginning orchestra camp and Hopper Dance Camp. What sets us apart? Our camp sizes are small and our staff are trained teachers or professionals in their fields. The largest camp we run includes 40 campers divided into groups no larger than 12 campers, with typical size ranging to about 8 campers per group. Camps and Summer Programs for Middle and High School Students If you’re looking for a summer program for your middle or high school student, we offer unique, educational, creative, and most of all, fun, programming. Whether your middle schooler wants to design his or her own camp, dance with members of Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Co., compose his or her own musical masterpiece, learn to debate, or create his or her own film, GDS is the place to be! High Schoolers may choose to participate in the IMPACT Summer Theater Experience combining service and acting, playwriting, or Tech Theater, or one of our summer service programs. Experienced dancers benefit from one-on-one instruction with DTSB&Co. in our summer dance intensive.
