Summer Springboard - Summer Springboard - Atlanta

Students have the opportunity to spend their summer session at a leading research institute ranked in the top 10 of public U.S. universities. This campus is located in the heart of Atlanta, gives easy access to explore a city known for its importance in both the Civil War and Civil Rights movement. Academic Courses At Summer Springboard we believe learning should be inspiring and interactive. We have worked hard to design courses, field trips and guest lectures that reflect the resources of the Atlanta area. Whenever possible, classes are held outdoors, on-site or in a lab-type setting to allow students as many ’hands on’ opportunities as possible. Field trips and guest speakers take the learning experience beyond the classroom and leverage all that Atlanta has to offer. In addition to our academic morning courses, students spend the afternoon either in electives (i.e. Public Speaking, Athletics, College Admissions, Community Service, Life Skills, and Photography) or participating in our True You program which explores elements of one's real self including strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities. Activities & Trips Students will have ample opportunity to tour Atlanta - known as the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coca Cola, as well as the host of the 1996 Olympics. Students will experience all that "the Big Peach" has to offer. Atlanta, GA While in "the Big Peach" students will have a city tour which will include visits to historic sites such as the Centennial Olympic Park, Skyview Atlanta, World of Coca Cola, Georgia Aquarium and The National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Six Flags over Georgia Students will spend a day at Six Flags over Georgia - the "Thrill Capital of the South"! Six Flags offers an abundance of roller coasters, attractions and games. The park offers many activities for those not interested in the thrill of large coasters. Track-Specific Excursions Each academic course will take subject matter specific excursions to help round out the student experience. Student Life Students live and study at one of the most green urban campuses in the U.S. Surrounded by nature, but in the heart of the city, students have the best of both worlds. Georgia Tech has a great shuttle service that allows students to get to different parts of Atlanta including "Tech Square" which includes restaurants, cafes, bookstores, and dessert shops. Housing Students will be housed in suite-style air-conditioned rooms on gender-segregated floors. All rooms include bed (with extra-long mattress), desk, desk chair, wardrobe and dresser. There are two rooms for each bathroom, with four roommates sharing their private full bathroom. Mentors live on same floors as students. Facilities The dormitory is part of a complex of buildings around a courtyard with volleyball courts nearby. Each building has laundry facilities, lounges and free wireless internet throughout. The university is committed to providing a healthy, smoke-free environment for students, faculty and staff. Accordingly, no smoking is permitted in student rooms or inside buildings, including lounges and balconies. Security All dormitories have 24-hour security and uses electronic keys to enter each building and dorm room. University security is on 24-hour patrol and available to any student that may need assistance during the Atlanta summer program for high school students. Dining The beautiful dining hall on campus offers a wide variety of stations with different cuisines, flavors, and accommodations for your dietary needs. The dining hall has both indoor and outdoor seating arrangements, so you can enjoy eating in the sun with new friends.
