4-H Camp Bristol Hills - Counselor-in-Training
Who was your favorite counselor when you were a camper? What made them a great counselor? Did they influence you to want to be a counselor too? If you have ever thought about being a counselor “when you grow up”, then the CIT program is for you! Many of our counselors started out as CITs themselves.
This two-week program covers all aspects of a camp counselor’s job, and is supported with workshops with the Camp Director and other leadership staff at camp! These include focused sessions on child development, behavior management, counseling techniques, communication, leadership, and environmental stewardship, as well as providing opportunities for CITs to develop strong bonds with their peers as the prepare for employment at 4-H Camp Bristol Hills.
The CIT program is an intense, immersive program. CITs will work directly with campers, shadowing counselors during some of the morning classes, afternoon recreational activities, evening programs, and in cabins. Guided experiences with Camp leadership staff are scheduled throughout the day.
The CIT program is designed to be FUN. There is a lot of important information packed into the two weeks, but CIT’s also enjoy teambuilding activities and scheduled breaks to foster a positive camp experience. The Thursday night campout with peers (weather permitting) is seen by many as a highlight of their Camp experience!
Campers successfully completing the CIT program in 2020 will be invited to apply for staff positions in 2021! Interested in financial support for the CIT program? Contact emm64@cornell.edu to inquire about the Charlie “Peanut” Plyter Memorial Campership.
