Cabrillo Summer Youth Program - Sewing, Making, Creating - Textile Design Lab
Design, sew, embroider, and create beautiful practical items as you let your creativity flow while developing your design skills! We will work our way through custom designed projects that include a stuffed creature or soft sculpture, a tote bag made from old jeans, and embroidery to add personality, color, and other unique design elements to your projects.
There will be some simple patterns in class for students to use, lots of fabric to experiment with, embroidery floss, needles & hoops, Bernina sewing machines, large cutting tables, ironing boards, irons, basic sewing supplies, and a playlist that students build each day to groove to as they sew and make! We will address construction and design strategies, cover basic sewing skills, and explore our own creative visions by mixing textiles, trims, embroidery, and buttons to make our projects.
The pace and vibe of this camp allows plenty of time for individual projects, problem solving, experimentation, and creativity!
Students will go home with their finished projects, embroidery needles and hoops, and new skills for designing and creating their own pieces at home!
