Cabrillo Summer Youth Program - Science + Art = Nature Journals!
Do you love to draw? Are you fascinated by the natural world around you? Join a professional scientific illustrator to create your own journal, documenting and illustrating the natural world. It's amazing how much scientific and visual information is on a bird's wing, a flower petal, or a lizard's back. Students will learn to develop and hone observational drawing skills to document these beautiful and important details. We’ll learn illustration techniques using graphite, colored pencil, and watercolor to record observations in our journals. Students will work from specimens and photographs, and go into the field to observe, illustrate, and journal about the natural world around us. Students will record written and illustrated notes about birds, plants, insects, reptiles, and amphibians. Each day will focus on a different group of organisms, and students will learn field drawing and sketching techniques.
Students will leave with newfound drawing techniques, skills to improve their observations, and journals ready to fill with observations of the natural world around them!
