Cabrillo Summer Youth Program - Small Metal Jewelry
Immersed in the magical world of creating handmade jewelry, in one of the best-equipped, private teaching studios in the state, students will work with master Goldsmith, Lynette Cederquist in her cozy, creekside studio in Aptos. Each student will learn basic jewelry fabrication and small metal skills, work at their own professional jewelry bench with professional jewelry tools, and the small class size allows for plenty of individualized instruction, and ample practice time. These fun, skills-based camps are an excellent foundation for future work, giving students the opportunity to implement their own designs using a variety of high quality tools and materials.
Students will create pieces that reflect their personal style, and design ideas as they learn hand-fabrication techniques such as filing, polishing, sawing, and torch use. They will use jeweler's brass, copper sheet, copper wire, and sterling & argentium silver. Students will go home with an understanding of basic jewelry making skills, knowledge of studio safety practices, and their beautiful projects. Depending on their pace, and their designs, students have time to make up to 10 finished pieces of jewelry!
Please note that students must have their hair tied back securely, wear long pants, and wear closed toed shoes in the studio at all times.
