Cabrillo Summer Youth Program - Little Veternary School

Explore the exciting world of veterinarians and “The ABCs of Dog and Cat Care” through interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities, and games. Learn how much water pets need to stay healthy, what to do when a dog gets hurt, how immunizations protect pets, and some basics about dog body language. Little vets will learn to take measurements and assessments on a dog, and how to make dog treats at home! After a lesson about x-rays, Little vets will take a tour of Cabrillo’s Radiologic Technology Program lab, and meet college students pursuing health care careers. One of our camp days will include a Humane Education presentation by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter to discuss understanding, respect, and empathy for all animals. After a brief introduction about how the Shelter helps animals and people in our community, kids will learn how they can become animal advocates. They will also learn and practice ways to safely and appropriately meet a new dog in public - including a visit from Stanley, a large, lovable chocolate lab! Our camp week will conclude with a graduation ceremony, and campers go home with their diploma, their stuffed dog with adoption certificate, recipe cards & a dog bone cookie cutter, as well as their Little Veterinarian white coat and tool kit!
