Cabrillo Summer Youth Program - Foodie Field Trips
This camp is all about exploring the amazing food that we have at our doorstep! We live in one of the most abundant food growing regions in the world, and have full access to a wide variety of organic produce and specialty food producers. In this week-long camp we will head out to visit some unique, local food artisans to see what they are doing that is so special, and how they are making their mark on our culinary community. After each field trip, we will return to the kitchen to bake, make, cook, and taste the amazing ingredients we have gathered that day. On our field trip days, Monday - Thursday, we will be going to:
• Sweet Earth Foods, a plant-based natural foods company based in Moss Landing, for a tour of their facility.
• Mutari Craft Chocolate House for a tour of their bean-to-bar chocolate factory.
• Santa Cruz Downtown Farmers Market to meet local organic produce vendors and buy produce.
• Gizdich Ranch, a 4th generation, family owned and operated, agricultural business in Watsonville, to explore the farm and pick berries.
Some of the dishes we will make include plant based burgers and fries, berry pies, handmade ice cream, chocolate desserts, spinach and cheese enchiladas, carrot cake with fresh ginger whipped cream, strawberry turnovers, veggie pot pie, and so much more! We invite all parents and family members to come and join us on friday as we will be preparing a meal for everyone to share!
