Nashville Sail Camp - Teen Leaders - Counselors in Training
Nashville Sail Camp is proud to be growing the summer camp staff from within, hiring our campers who have attended in the past. The tradition of Teen Leaders adds structure to ensure that participants are getting what they need in order to advance to staff positions in the future, developing leadership and an attitude of service back to the camp. This multi-step process supports the development of 21st-century skills, leadership, sailing ability, and instruction. Our hope is that Teen Leaders will join the staff team in the future and work towards certification with US Sailing.
After completing the Leaders-In-Training program, Teen Leaders can apply for Counselors-In-Training (CIT) program. This dual training can be completed in one season or over multiple seasons. Counselors-In-Training is supervised by the head counselor and partnered with a counselor mentor, but they are never responsible for supervising campers on their own.
Counselors In Training (CIT) Ages 15-17. There is a one-time training fee which includes online training and CIT training week, June 5-9. Candidates must commit to at least 2 sessions during the summer 2023 season
CIT's put their leadership skills into practice by:
- Leading games and activities with the kids
- Helping with daily set up and clean up of camp
- Learning about the role and responsibilities of a camp counselor by shadowing a camp counselor
- Complete daily leadership workshops to focus on their development and ensure they have the support and tools needed to be a success

Extended care is available from 7:45am-5:15pm for an additional $65 fee
Participation is limit to 2 CITs each week, CIT candidates must have completed at least one session of LIT
The program fee includes the fee for the TWRA Boater's test.
After completing at least two weeks as a CIT, the following season a Teen Leader may apply to be a Junior Counselor, which is a paid staff position at camp. With demonstrated skill and knowledge, staff members can promote into Instructor, which requires they take the US Sailing certification course.
