At Camp Lakey Gap, we strive to nurture people with autism through an enriching camp experience and provide families and guardians with a a time of respite. Through rigorous staff training and programming designed specifically to meet our campers' needs, we enable campers from all points on the autism spectrum to participate at their greatest level of independence. We maintain a low staff:camper ratio (1:1 or 1:2) in order to allow for individualization of our program and to support campers with behavioral challenges. Our staff are mostly college students who are studying relevant disciplines (speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychology, etc.) Camp Lakey Gap believes that every person has value and that people of all ability levels can be taught to appreciate their strengths. This creates an environment of acceptance and encouragement for our campers. We also encourage our campers to develop appropriate peer relationships, and many of our campers make new friends during their time here.
