CU Summer Scholars - PGA Professional Golf Management
“If Golf is your Passion, Make it your Major”
This week long course introduces students to the exciting career opportunities in the golf industry. One of only 18 PGA accredited programs; the PGA Golf Management Program at Clemson University provides an educational background and fast track program for students who desire to become PGA golf professionals. Students in our major obtain specialized knowledge, skills, and preparation to be leaders in the golf industry. Graduates from the PGA Golf Management University Programs are recognized as “Experts in the Game and Business of Golf”.
During this course students will learn the following:
-Career paths and opportunities in the golf industry
-The role of PGA Professionals at various types of golf facilities
-The skills and experience needed for advancement in the field of golf management
-Fundamental concepts of providing golf instruction and player development programs
-Principals of managing and operating golf facilities including daily golf operations, merchandising, and tournament operations
-The role of equipment, club fitting, and teaching technologies
-The importance of service and customer orientation
-Understand how to use the USGA Rules of Golf
During this course students will;
-Design a Player Development Program
-Complete a Club Fitting Assessment and make club fitting and repair alterations
-Analyze golf swings and make recommendations based on golf swing principals
-Complete a Launch Monitor and Putting Assessment using Flightscope and the SAM Putt Lab.
-Tour a golf facility and meet with PGA Professionals and course superintendents
-Play Golf and discuss Golf Course Management and Playing Lesson concepts
-Develop a business plan
Please Note: This program is designed to educate interested students who have or are on track to meet the playing ability requirements for entrance into the PGA Golf Management Program. The standard for entrance into a PGA Golf Management program is a USGA handicap of 12 or below. Typically students who are interested in this major have played competitive golf on their high school golf team.
