Camp Guyasuta

Camp Guyasuta is a historic outdoor camp owned and operated by the Laurel Highlands Council of the Boy Scouts of America, located on a scenic 175-acre property in O’Hara Township and Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania, just a few miles from downtown Pittsburgh. The camp dates back to 1918, when the land was donated for Scouting use, and has served tens of thousands of Scouts, school groups, and non-profit organizations over the years. The site offers a wide range of facilities and activities designed to promote outdoor adventure, personal growth, and leadership development. Its amenities include the McGinnis Education Center—a full-service, environmentally friendly conference building with dorm lodging—multiple program shelters, a campfire arena, a swimming pool with spray ground, sports courts, and a handicap-accessible nature trail featuring educational signage about local history and ecology. Camp Guyasuta’s Rohr Challenge Center emphasizes teamwork, problem-solving, trust, and leadership skills, featuring both low- and high-ropes elements and a 50-foot climbing and rappelling tower. Throughout the year, the camp hosts a variety of programs, including STEM Adventure Day Camp, archery and range sports, COPE and climbing challenges, and Scout activities such as merit badge classes and outdoor skill experiences. It also offers unique outdoor experiences, such as paddle & pedal programs, creek hikes, and opportunities to enjoy local wildlife and natural features, including Guyasuta Run, a federally designated clean water stream. Overall, Camp Guyasuta blends traditional Scouting adventure with modern educational experiences, making it a vibrant community resource for youth development and outdoor education.
