Parents, do you remember all those cool science projects you did back when you were in school? In this camp, kids will build, demolish, experiment and invent all of those cool things during the week. Campers will build and ignite a volcano, launch large fruit from a catapult, build and race solar cars and throw things off high places! Each day campers will have fun in small groups. Starting Monday, it’s all catapults. A quick study on how they work and why they were built. Then it’s on to testing. Our catapult will throw a cantaloupe 100 yards when operated properly. On Tuesday, campers will start to build volcanoes in teams for a Wednesday eruption. Each volcano group will consist of four volcanologists, building their structure from papier-mâché, wire, wood and stone. Eye protection will be supplied to participants during all stages of volcano building. Lastly each camper will receive a solar powered car kit to assemble. These cars will take several hours to construct. All electrical components necessary to run their own solar power are included. In addition to the above, there will be several other experiments conducted if time permits. These may include the following projects: paper airplane construction and distance competitions, egg drop contests, balsa wood bridge construction (weight bearing contest) and microscope work. Campers will keep their solar powered car.
