Camp Howard

Camp Howard was founded in 1952 through a private property donation by the Horton family who wanted to do something beneficial for Catholic youth in Oregon. The camp is operated by the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and it offers recreational summer camp programs to all youth ages 8-17 during the months of July and August. Approximately 1500 youth enjoy Camp Howard each summer. Camp Howard includes a total of 245 wooded acres, 70 of which are used for camping, with the remaining 170 acres planted to Douglas Fir for the purposes of harvesting to sustain the camp operation. All current professional forest practices are followed in the management of the camp property and Camp Howard received the Clackamas County Tree Farmer of the Year award in 2006 for its management practices. Camp Howard also enjoys an excellent relationship with the Multnomah County Outdoor School program which operates several weeks of Outdoor School at the camp each Fall and Spring. The camp is available for year round use as a rental property and several groups use the camp to facilitate their own camping programs annually. Camp Howard can accommodate group sizes of 30 - 325 people. Located 35 miles east of Portland, Camp Howard is readily accessible via I-84 through Corbett, OR or via US Highway 26 through Sandy, OR. The Mt. Hood Ski and Recreation area is only 30 minutes east of camp.
