Cleveland Sight Center Highbrook Lodge
At Highbrook Lodge, we see camp differently!
Founded in 1928, Highbrook Lodge has been providing a unique summer camp experience for those of all ages who are blind or have low vision for over 90 years. In fact, we were the first camp built specially for individuals with vision loss! Since then, we’ve been utilizing the benefits of our natural environment to promote friendship, growth, independence and self-sufficiency through traditional camp activities adapted to the needs of our campers.
Highbrook Lodge works to stay true to our original mission: serving individuals with vision loss and blindness. We also are capable to serve those who are deaf and blind and we work with individuals who have other disabilities in addition to their vision loss, too.
One of the things that makes Highbrook truly unique is our commitment to serving campers of all ages. We offer residential sessions for young people (aged 7 to 21) and for adults (aged 21 to 99). We also offer weekend sessions for our youngest clients (aged 0 to 10) and their immediate families. Further, we frequently hold day trips to allow campers, both new and old, to experience a day in the life at Highbrook. We even offer fall and winter weekend camps in the off-season!
We believe that summer camps provide a unique environment that promotes lasting positive effects for the lives of our campers, including the space to make and maintain friendships; relax and play; develop further independence; be outdoors; and be unplugged. At Highbrook, we also promote strengths-based therapeutic recreation, designed to assist our campers in their vision rehab process while providing a fun and safe outdoor environment.
Highbrook Lodge is proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association. We also ensure that a licensed medical professional is always on-site. We provide well-balanced, nutritious meals and our property is well maintained and equipped with accessible facilities, guide wire, and comfortable sleeping arrangements.
